7th September 1999 - CHESHIRE CUP CHANGES FOR 2000
There are to be major format changes in the Cheshire Cup in 2000 so that only the top 29 clubs in the county, i.e. those in the County League Premier and First Divisions, the Liverpool Competition Premier and First Divisions and the North Staffs & South-Cheshire League First Division may enter by right. All other Cheshire-based clubs will have the option of entering the senior competition or a new-style Cheshire Shield. These changes are intended to prevent smaller clubs being over-matched and conceding games as has happened in more than a dozen cases this season. The upshot is that there will be fewer rounds and a less crowded fixture-list, especially early in the season when clubs are also involved in the National Village and League Cups.
