JUNIOR SECTION NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2000

Dear junior cricketers and parents,

The purpose of this Newsletter, so early in the new year, is to give you an opportunity to plan ahead for the next cricket season, and get a few dates into your sporting diary!

Firstly, we are holding a meeting at the Cricket Club on Tuesday 1st February at 8pm for all those parents and others who are interested in helping to run the various teams we shall be putting out during the forthcoming season. Anyone who would like to help but is unable to attend the meeting should please give me, or one of the team managers a call.

Indoor Nets for under 11 and under 13 cricketers will be held at Birkenhead Park on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8 pm, commencing on 2nd February. (We charge £1 per head per session) This year we are fortunate to have the assistance of Neil Perry, who is the Sports Development Officer for the Wirral Borough Council. Neil is a qualified cricket coach and will be helping with the development of junior cricket at Neston throughout the season.

Under 15 cricketers will be able to join in the senior Indoor Nets, which will take place on Sunday afternoons, commencing (probably) on Sunday 6th February. Confirmation will be posted on the Club notice boards.

For the first time, we have been invited to enter an under 13 team, and possibly an under 15 team, in an indoor knockout competition at the Oval Sports Centre on a date to be arranged in March.

Following the success of our under 13 team in the Cheshire County League in 1999, we shall be entering a team in the Cheshire County League under 15 competition on Sunday mornings from May to July. This will not clash with the Wirral League competition for under 15 teams which takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school holidays.

We have also been invited to enter a team in the Kwik Cricket competition for under 9s, which will be held for the first time in the year 2000 on Sunday mornings. I would like to hear from anyone who would like to assist in, or take charge of the arrangements for the under 9 team.

Later in the year, we shall again be holding a week of coaching for under 13 junior cricketers, and we shall also be entering a team in the under 14 Festival, organised by the Wirral Borough Council, from 7th to 11th August.

With so much cricket in prospect, the year 2000 will be very exciting for junior cricketers at Neston. At the same time, we will be very interested to hear from any juniors who are not already playing their cricket with our Club. So if you know of anyone at your school who may like to join us, please ask them to contact me or one of the team managers.

Peter Joslin - Junior Cricket Chairman
